The Southwark Crown Court hearing the case of alleged fraud and money laundering against a former Delta State Governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, is to deliver judgement on Tuesday (tomorrow).
This was after the arguments from both the prosecution and defence counsels were taken on Monday (today) on the guilt plea entered by Ibori.
Today’s hearing, broken into two sessions, was to consider the plea by Ibori’s defence team for leniency, since the former governor has admitted guilt.
The prosecution described Ibori as a petty thief who lived and behaved like a billionaire.
Ibori came to court today in a black suit.
His supporters turned up in the court in their hundreds but were later dispersed by the London Metropolitan Police when they became unruly.
They insisted on having access to the courtroom, which The Eagle Online correspondent said could only sit about 20 persons.
So the priority of the court officials were lawyers and close relatives of Ibori.
However, the embattled governor’s supporters will hear none of that.
In the course of attempting to force their way into the courtroom, a staff of the court was pushed to the ground.
The police team was promptly invited.
