Former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, on Monday commended Governors Aliyu Babangida of Niger State, Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State, Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State for their bold step in finding lasting solution to some national problems.
Babangida described them as “real patriots.”
IBB disclosed to journalists after a closed door meeting at the Presidential Lodge in Minna, Niger State with former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and four of the five northern governors, that he is impressed with their efforts.
According to him: “I just want to commend the governors here and some of their colleagues.
“I was very impressed because they see the problem of this country as our problem and they have taken the right step to consult widely in trying to find solution to some of the leading problems.
“They are real patriots.
“I am very happy and I told them so.”
Speaking earlier on behalf of the others after the meeting, which lasted for about one hour and 20 minutes, Aliyu said the meeting was a platform that could be used to actualise political dreams.
According to Aliyu: “Now we are consulting with our elders and leaders to look at some of the problems and solutions to the problems that some of us perceived we are facing.
“Simple.
“The solution to Governors Forum crisis, political issues, which have come up and we are consulting to make sure that we all understand the issues and we all come out with solution and we will also carry our people together as we go along.”
Speaking on their resolution, Aliyu said: “We are still consulting.”
Responding to questions on the lingering crisis in Rivers State, he said: “There is no gathering in Nigeria now that Rivers’ issue will not come up, but our meeting today is a larger issue than even the Governor’s Forum.
“We are discussing on how to solve them.”
The governors arrived 12:01pm and the two Generals, donned in white babariga, arrived in a Blue S500 Mercedes Benz, with registration number AE 323 WSH and entered exactly 12:25pm and the meeting started 12:30pm.
The meeting ended and they all stepped out at exactly 2:10pm
The Governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako, however sent apologies over his inability to attend the meeting because he had a high delegation on electricity from Cameroon.
