A robbery suspect arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command has confessed that he so much loves women that he spends most of his robbery operations’ money on them.
The suspect, Sunday Adewole, was arrested with his partner, Nurudeen Adeyoju, while robbing a female cement dealer at the Ijaiye-Ijokoro area of the state.
It was gathered that they would have gotten away with the robbery, but for the arrival of the victim’s sales girl, Peju, who walked into the robbery.
The frightened screams of Peju as she sighted the robbers’ gun, alerted people in the area.
The suspects said that although they mostly target women cement dealers, they also sometimes attack and rob trailer drivers and their conductors.
After their arrest, two guns were recovered from them.
Adewole confessed that after operations, he uses his money for “enjoyment”.
He said there was no woman on earth he could not have sex with, as long as he wanted her.
He said that he knows that every woman has a price tag.
His words: “I once gave a woman N300,000 just because I wanted to have sex with her.
“I was determined to have her.
“I also spend my money on hotels.
“I have a particular hotel I stay at Mushin.
“I can stay there for three months.
“I pay N35,000 every day.”
Describing how they used to target and rob the women cement dealers, Adeyoju said he and other gang members, who are still at large, go to Ijaiye-Ijokoro, watching as the women make their sales.
The gang pays special attention to the amount of money some women sold for that day.
They also monitor where the women kept the money.
A police source said: “The dealers used to keep money in car boots.
“The suspects monitor those with a lot of sales.
“Adewole is the motorbike rider for the gang.
“He has a locally made gun.
“Once the road is free, the gang goes straight to the dealer.
“The gang will whip out gun and demand for the trader’s money.”
Police investigators revealed that the gang used to attack the women sellers every month.
“They also rob trailer drivers and conductors who park along the road at night,” said the police, adding: “If they make enough money from the cement dealers, they won’t rob for the next three months.
“The biggest money they had made from robbing cement dealers in a particular month was N3.4million.”
According to Adeyoju, the gang used part of the money to buy three motorbikes specifically for robbery operations.
The operational motorbikes have no number plate at the front and at the back.
The number plate was upturned so that eagle eyed policemen would not be able to detect the number.
The gang members confessed that when the government started restriction of motorbikes in Lagos State, they decided to rent an apartment close to Ijaiye, the base of their operation.
Aside from robbing the women of their money, they also used to snatch their gold jewelry from them.
They sell the cheapest gold taken from the women for N160,000.
Adeyoju said: “Once we enter a cement shop, we would order all the people in the shop to lie face down.
“We’ll collect the money and ride away on our motorbike.”
The gang met its waterloo after they robbed a cement dealer and not quite satisfied with dispossessing her of N200,000, they embarked on searching her handbag, looking for gold jewelry.
Adeyoju said: “I had already collected N200,000 and was searching for more money and gold when one of her sales girl, walked in.”
According to the police, the salesgirl, Peju, walked into the shop and noticed that her Madam was facing the wall, while Adeyoju was behind her.
Police said: “The woman was shouting: Jesus! Jesus!
“The sales girl thought her madam was praying.
“It was when she noticed the suspect, Adeyoju, searching her madam’s handbag that she knew the woman was being robbed.
“The suspect didn’t know Peju was behind him, until she asked what was going on.
“Adeyoju turned round and pointed his gun at her.
“Scared at seeing the gun, Peju took off shouting.
“Even when Adeyoju ordered her to stop or he would shoot, she didn’t hear or couldn’t obey.
“Adeyoju ran out of the shop and jumped on the motorbike manned by Adewole, who had heard the commotion and had started the motorbike, ready to zoom off.
“Immediately Adewole zoomed off, the force of the speed of the motorbike knocked Adeyoju off the back seat.
“He landed on the ground.
“Rather than wait, Adewole continued to escape, while Adeyoju ran after him.
“He however couldn’t catch up.
“People started chasing after Adeyoju.
“Sensing people were almost on him, he turned around and shot twice.
“He wanted to scare the people, but he soon ran out of bullets.
“When the crowd realised he was out of bullets, they pounced on him.
“They threw tyre and poured fuel on him.
“They were about to set him ablaze when policemen arrived and rescued him.
“His confessions, led to the arrest of Adewole.”
