Prominent Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has said she known what to expect anytime she criticises the government in power.
Jalade-Ekeinde said this in reaction to the fear expressed by one of her fans on Twitter after she described life under President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as “hellish” for Nigerians and she was taken on by the President’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, on her comment.
Reacting to the comment of the fan that she would be victimised for saying the truth, she said: “Lol, I know the terrain. I’ve been doing this for many years. I know the drill… usually, they’ll come after me with Taxes. Lol… I suffer that every time I speak up… lol.”
Ahmad indeed did insinuate in his comments that Jalade-Ekeinde may have to answer for tax issues when he complained after unsuccessfully trying to change her stance on the issue that Nigerians do not pay tax.
In responding to the actress, Ahmad tweeted: “Madam Omotola those who are working for CLEAN money are not complaining and will never refer our dear country as ‘hellish’.
“In Kano State alone, from 2015 to 2018, no fewer than 200 medium and small scale rice milling centres emerged. For that, billions circulated among millions.”
Omotola replied Ahmad: “As long as you’re not insinuating that I am not working CLEAN for my money… I hear you. Its good that there are some progress.
“Do you truly want to say you dont see all that’s really wrong? Can we fight for our future in truth for once? Without being partisan?”
Ahmad then told her: “There are problems, and some have been with us since 1950s. Yes, I am partisan and I replied you because you mentioned @MBuhari and @ProfOsinbajo’s govt which I am working in.
“We as Nigerians, can you honestly say we are all acting like we have problems? Do we really pay taxes?”
