The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has ordered a thorough audit of the force armouries nationwide.
Th directive was contained in a statement issued by the Force spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja on Wednesday.
The statement said that the measure was to strengthen accountability of police weaponry.
It stated that the exercise, which had already begun, would cover all commands, formations, stations and units across the country.
It said this would also enable the Force to review current state of arms and ammunition in its stocks at the various armouries.
