The Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, has denied saying that the Federal Government was not in a position to implement the agreement it reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Wogu, in a statement by the spokesman of his ministry, Samuel Olowookere, said what he told newsmen was that the leadership of ASUU should reconsider its position on the strike.
The statement by Olowookere thus faulted the report in two national dailies on Wednesday.
The statement said: “It is pertinent to set the record straight, the Minister while responding to questions from journalist did not make such a statement but rather, Chief Wogu used the occasion to appeal to ASUU to return to class while negotiation continues.”
Members of ASUU have been on strike over the failure of the government to implement the agreement it reached with the union in 2009.
