Eddie Howe has been rewarded for Cherries’ terrific recent form by being named Barclays Premier League manager of the month for March.
It is a first monthly managerial gong for Howe since March 2015 when he claimed the Championship equivalent for the third time in Cherries’ title-winning campaign.
Cherries followed up a sterling draw at Manchester United by beating both West Ham and Swansea at Vitality Stadium to claim seven points from nine during the month.
He was selected by a combination of votes from a panel of experts and the public, beating five other contenders – Crystal Palace’s Sam Allardyce, Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino and Craig Shakespeare of Leicester.
“It feels really good,” said Howe, who, at 39, is the youngest recipient of the award since Garry Monk in August 2014.
“It was such an important month for us. The fact we were able to pick up seven points and go unbeaten means everything to us at this moment.”
Howe guided Cherries to a 1-1 draw against Manchester United despite seeing his side reduced to 10-men by the dismissal of Andrew Surman on the stroke of half-time.
The subsequent Joshua King-inspired 3-2 victory over West Ham and ruthless 2-0 beating of Swansea saw Cherries climb three places to 11th and open a nine-point gap on the Premier League’s bottom three.
This latest award represents the eighth individual honour bestowed on Howe in a managerial career spanning 405 games and more than eight years.
The League Managers’ Association recognised his promotion-winning achievement in 2015 by naming him both manager of the year and Championship manager of the year.
Howe twice received the League One manager-of-the-month prize during the 2012-13 campaign when he led Cherries out of the third tier.
