How long is sex supposed to last?, by Tiwa Says

This is a topic that is in debate in a lot of quarters and probably one that haunts most men. A lot of people have bought into the sexual mythology about penetrative sex and the popular idea of “lasting for hours” and “going all night.” But the average desirable sex session probably lasts a shorter amount of time than you think.

Do not let anyone else’s sex life – or what they say their sex life is – make you feel bad about your own.

Sex should last as long as you want it to. It shouldn’t have time restrictions. As long as you are both enjoying it. Some people may want slow, sensual sex, while others prefer quickies.

Marathon sex sessions are usually used as a yardstick of how steamy a romantic evening was. And while quickies can be fun, they should be just a piece of a balanced sex life, not the whole thing. They’re like ice cream…very tasty, but not intended for everyday sustenance. So there has to be a balance.

Because sex can be described in a myriad of ways, and vaginal penetrative sex is not the only type of sex…it’s sometimes difficult to accurately measure the process. From studies conducted, it has been revealed that penetrative vaginal sex that lasted from one minute to two minutes is “too short” and sex that lasted 10 minutes to 30 minutes is “too long.” Meanwhile, “adequate” sex lasted three minutes to seven minutes and desirable sex lasted seven minutes to 13 minutes. Nevertheless, some women said their ideal is 10 minutes to 15 minutes of foreplay and 10 minutes of intercourse.

Still, understanding what you and your partner both desire and working to achieve that satisfaction together is far more important than racing an imaginary clock. Pleasure for all parties involved should be your first and foremost concern in the bedroom. And keep in mind that preferences for shorter or longer sessions are as varied as the individuals participating.

If your sex sessions are lasting longer or shorter than you want, talking things out with your patent is always a good place to start when something about your sex life is less than your ideal.

In conclusion, what constitutes sex is truly subjective and how long it should last is up to you. What’s important is that you ask for and receive the type of sex that you want, not what someone else says is normal.

I would love to get feedback, questions and recommendations on the topics you would want me to shed light on.
