Former Head of State and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday explained that the N27.5 million loan he got from a bank to obtain his nomination and expression of interest forms would be paid back by the Buhari Crowd Funding Platform.
Buhari stated this on Sunday during a chat with some journalists in Abuja.
The former Head of State similarly debunked a report in the media that he bribed the Imo State APC delegates with N1 million during his visit to the the state recently.
The APC Presidential aspirant, who spoke through the Head of Media, Publicity and ICT of Buhari Support Organization, Dr. Chidi Maduekwe, described the bribery claim in an online medium as ridiculous and deceptive.
According to him: “As at today, we have a platform called Buhari Crowd Funding Platform.
“That in itself is an innovation.
“Every second, every hour, N200, N1,000 is being paid into that account by concerned Nigerians.
“So, that could serve as a pool to even pay for the loan that was raised to start with.
“So having borrowed money to buy his ticket, we have set up a platform that would fund the repayment of that money and fund his campaign and indeed be a litmus test as to how popular and if he is really the peoples president in waiting.”
The Daura, Katsina State born former Head of State between December 31, 1983 and August 27, 1985, had, while collecting his presidential nomination forms, revealed that he spoke to his Bank, which made the collection of his presidential nomination forms possible.
Speaking on the issue of his visit to Imo State delegates and the subsequent bribery allegation, Buhari described it as ridiculous, calling the report a deceptive one.
According to him: “The General needs to visit all delegates, whether you subscribed to his candidature or not.
“But once you are an APC delegate, it is mandatory that he visits you.
“So, when he visited Imo delegates, they made it clear that they were already committed to their governor.
“We thanked them and left.
“But along the line, somebody was saying that we came to lobby them with money, which is most ridiculous because you can’t imagine the General condescending so low to do anything of such.
“Wherever we have been to, the story has been so – choose me for who I am.
“Choose me for the state of Nigeria now.
“Choose me for what you want Nigeria to be tomorrow.
“If you think l am the arrowhead for the change, l have come to request, seek your consent to be voted for at the party’s primaries.
“And there was no where any money was given.
“Sympathizers, like l said, following the General, may have on their own, in one way or the other encouraged people, especially those who are from their states, like Imo, to say it is good you are present for the delegates meeting.
“So that is the truth about.
“At no time did GMB, all through this meeting of the delegates tour, share money or lobby any delegate with money.
“As we all know, a leopard can never change its spot.
“Friends and sympathizers may have privately encouraged their colleagues to attend the delegates meeting, certainly not GMB directing or approving any monetary exchange as being faultily reported by some online media.”
