Kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, has narrated how he got out of police net in 2008 despite having bullet wounds on him.
Evans, who said he was shot while trying to settle a dispute among members of a robbery gang, told New Telegraph newspaper in an interview, that he was the only one arrested by the police during the confrontation in Lagos.
He said a robbery gang was having issues about the sharing of money they made from an operation and he was called in to settle the dispute.
He said on getting there, one of the gang members started shooting at everyone.
He said he sustained bullet wounds on his thigh and was arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos.
Evans said but rather than treat his case in Lagos, he was transferred to Imo State, where the Police Command said there was another matter he needed to attend to.
According to the story, a policewoman, simply identified as Tina, influenced the transfer of Evans to the Imo State Police Command after efforts to get him out failed with the SARS in Lagos State.
He told New Telegraph: “I was transferred to Owerri, Imo State Police Command.
“They said there was a case I had there.
“One man said I snatched his car or something.
“I said it was true.
“It was after the Imo State Police Command finished their investigation that I was given bail.”
When asked the role the said Tina played in his release from police custody, Evans said: “I was in the cell.
“I didn’t know anything that was going outside.
“I didn’t know what they discussed.
“I didn’t know who signed or took my bail.
“I was in cell throughout.
“The people that took my bail discussed with the police.
“I was granted bail at Eagle Squad, Owerri.”
When asked who took his bail between the said Tina and his mum, Evans responded: “I don’t know!
“All I know is they brought somebody to sign and take my bail.
“It was one woman police officer, Tina, that came with my mum to police station to take my bail.
“The police woman is from my village.
“I didn’t go to court.”
