Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State, on Sunday revealed how he cooperated with God to become the flag-bearer of the party in the state.
Okowa, who said his successful outing during the primary election of the party was divinely propelled, recalled how he positioned himself politically since 1998 to emerge as Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan successor.
At the thanksgiving service packaged to thank God for his life and for being his political driving force, tagged: Successful Outing in PDP Guber Primary Election, conducted at the St. Philips Anglican Church, AGGS Compound, in Asaba on Sunday, Okowa, flanked by his wife, Edith, prayed God to complete the good work He has started on December 8, last year by ensuring his emergence in the February 28, 2015 election and inauguration as governor on May 29, this year.
Okowa said: “In preparation for the return of the country to democratic rule in 1998, I pitched tent with the ruling party (PDP), where I coordinated the Grassroots Democratic Movement for the former Governor of the state, Chief James Ibori Campaign Organization.
“Owing to my unbroken service as a council chairman and later Commissioners for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Water Resources Development and Health, before I was appointed by my boss, His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, as the Secretary to the State Government in 2007, the position I held until 2011 when I picked the party’s ticket for the Delta North Senatorial seat.
“Prior to this, I also headed Senator Patrick Osakwe’s Campaign Organization before I succeeded him 2011. Today, I am not only being viewed in Abuja as someone who is an ardent loyalist of the party but as someone who has a clinical understanding of Delta state and its people.”
The Eagle online recalls that Okowa on December 8 last year polled 406 votes, to beat 24 other challengers, including his closest rival, Chief David Edevbie, who scored 299 votes, and Sir Tony Obuh, who got five votes.
