There was widespread panic in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State as yet-to-be-identified hoodlums in the early hours of Saturday (today) attacked and burnt down Ezza North Registration Area Center and some Independent National Electoral Commission sensitive and non-sensitive materials.
The hoodlums also burnt down Community Secondary School, Okposi Umuoghara, identified as Polling Unit 007 in the Area.
A source alleged the political thugs were suspected to have been hired by the All Progressives Congress.
Narrating the incident, a stakeholder in the area, Ikechukwu Nwobo, said the attack was an invasion from unknown persons, not even from the community.
Nwobo explained: “It was an organized crime, not an internal violence.
“The hoodlums came spontaneously around 4am and started shooting sporadically.
“People scampered for safety and in the process, they set the RAC and materials ablaze.
“They did the same in about four other locations.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Odah, confirmed the attack and said the Police were on top of the situation to fish out the perpetrators.
Odah said: “I got a call from the area that the RAC was under attack just few minutes ago.
“I am rushing back to the Command to rally response to the situation.”
