Bayo Akinfemi, a Hollywood actor, producer and director, on Monday said that a film crew from Hollywood would be arriving at the University of Ilorin soon to shoot a film on the campus.
Akinfemi disclosed this when he visited the Vice-Chancellor of UNILORIN, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, in Ilorin.
He said the Hollywood crew would also hold workshops for students of Department of Performing Arts.
The thespian stressed that it had become necessary for him to come back home to give back to the institution that gave him so much.
According to him, the proposed film will enable students of performing arts to understand how to translate theory to practice, which will also serve as calling card to take back to Hollywood.
Akinfemi said Nigeria was capable of producing Oscar Award-winning films if the enabling environment was put in place to possibly attract Hollywood to collaborate with local practitioners.
He described himself as “a son that came back with report on his exploits abroad”.
The multi-talented actor noted that it was important for students to learn to translate stage acting to film.
He expressed the hope that Nigeria would soon become the golden destination for Hollywood.
Welcoming the actor back to the university campus, Ambali said he was delighted to see Akinfemi, an alumnus of the institution.
The vice chancellor said the actor had been able to translate the education he received at UNILORIN to the outside world.
He said: “You have done this for national development and for the entire world.
“You are flying the flag of the university really high.”
Ambali added that it was assuring to know that the university was part of Akinfemi’s future plans.
He disclosed that UNILORIN was planning to establish a television station in addition to the FM radio station that was already making waves on the campus and its environ.
