The Adamawa State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has said the recent attacks by herdsmen in some parts of the state claimed the lives of eight teachers in the state.
The Chairman of the NUT in the state, Rodney Nathan, made this known while briefing newsmen in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, on Thursday.
Nathan said the crises had led to the displacement of hundreds of teachers.
He urged the Federal government to stop the killings and bring the perpetrators to book.
He added that such would serve as deterrence to criminals.
He commended the State Governor, Muhammadu Bindow, for constituting a high profile committee of enquiry with the aim of bringing perpetrators of such dastardly acts to book.
He encouraged the governor to match words with actions.
Nathan said: “In the recent crisis that engulfed some parts of the state, we lost eight teachers.
“We lost one Headmaster in Damsa, three teachers in Numan, three in Song and one in Madagali.
“We do not have the adequate number of those displaced but are over 100.”
The chairman appealed to the people of the state to uphold tolerance towards a peaceful coexistence.
According to Nathan: “Without peace, there will be no development, no one can go about his normal social life.”
He further advised teachers who indulge in taking drugs to desist.
According to him: “A teacher should be a role model to every child.”
Nathan described drug addiction by teachers as unethical, adding that such was inimical to moulding the character of the children.
