Alhaji Hassan Yusuf, a second republic Presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, has died at the age of 83 years.
The son of the deceased, Yusuf Hassan, said Yusuf died on Tuesday at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital after a protracted illness and was buried on Tuesday in Damaturu.
He said the deceased left behind 4 wives, 20 children and 55 grand children.
Hassan Yusuf succeeded late Aminu Kano as the presidential candidate of PRP and contested against late Shehu Shagari in 1983.
The late politician started politics in 1958 as a youth leader under the Northern Elements Progressives Union later joined Action Group and the PRP.
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe, Alhaji Maimala Buni, APC governorship candidate, Emirs of Damaturu and Nguru were among dignitaries that attended the funeral prayers in Damaturu.
