Kano Pillars male handball on Friday defeated the Owena Kings of Akure 39-27 to win fourth game at the ongoing 2019 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Kano Pillars 20-15 before both sides went for the break.
But when the game restarted, Kano Pillars went a gear up and extended their lead to win 33-19.
The win was their fourth in the competition which entered Day 4 on Friday, they won their first game on Tuesday against Lagos Seasiders of Lagos 28-27.
They won their second game against COAS Shooters of Nigeria Army 29-21 on Wednesday and on Thursday they defeated Borno Spiders of Maiduguri 38-28.
Speaking after Thursday’s game, Tomi Olatunde, the head coach of Owena Kings, said his players tried their best but it was unfortunate that they lost their game.
Olatunde said: “My players had a good match, but it was unfortunate the result went against them.
“We will work on our lapses and correct our mistakes before our next match against the Niger United on Saturday.’’
On his part, Solomon Yola, the coach of Kano Pillars, said he was happy that his players won their game to make him proud again.
Yola said: “This is our fourth game we are wining now; we are determined to win all our game in this competition and light up the trophy.
“We are playing Prisons Key Boys of Nigeria Prison on Saturday we will work hard to win the game, with hard work and dedication we will achieved our goals.”
Also, in another male competition on match played at the same venue, COAS Shooters of Nigeria Army drew 29-29 against Plateau Vipers of Jos while the Kada Stars of Kaduna beat Prisons Key Boys of Nigeria Prison 33-23.
Twelve male and 10 female teams are participating in this first phase of the second edition of Prudent Energy Handball Premier League, being organised by the Handball Federation of Nigeria.
The competition is being hosted at the Velodrome of the Abuja National Stadium.
