The Minister of sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has reeled out stringent conditions for the Local Organising Committee for the proposed Bash Ali Guinness Book of Records fight.
Abdullahi, who finally agreed for the fight to hold after initial doubts, emphasised that the “Bash Ali Guinness Book of Records Fight” was purely private sector driven.
He said: “Let me emphasise that since the project is purely private sector driven.
“Government is not expected to be involved financially and directly in the hosting of the fight.
“The Federal Government is however committed to providing the enabling environment that will make the fight a pleasurable and memorable experience.
“Let me reiterate the fact that the Federal Government of Nigeria will not condone sloppiness or any act that would undermine the integrity of this great nation.”
Abdullahi also reeled out to the terms of reference to the 15-member Local Organising Committee headed by a former Minister of Sports, Hon. Bala Bawa Ka’Oje.
He disclosed that the term of reference of the LOC included “to galvanise all sources of support and funding through marketing and promotion to meet the requirements of protocol, logistics and event management; to engage the services of credible promoters; and to undertake the packaging of the fight in an efficient, effective, transparent and accountable manner.”
Bash Ali also disclosed after the media parley held at the Media Hall of the Abuja National Stadium that he would be fighting against American Rick Camlin, who is the reigning International Boxing Union Champion.
He said: “Firstly, I want to confirm that I will be slugging it out with America Rick Camlin, who is also the reigning International Boxing Union Champion.
“I feel great that after seven years of struggling to ensure that this fight holds, it is happening now.
“Sometimes disappointment can be a blessing in disguise.
“If I had fought seven years ago, maybe somebody else should have broken the record.
“So, I will be fighting at the age of 58 and some days.
“So it will be very difficult to beat this record because the boxer that will do this must be 60 years old.”
