The Abuja Guild of Medical Directors has called on the Minister of Federal Capital Territory to allocate a designated land for hospital purposes in the territory.
The guild made the appeal through one of its members, Dr Wisdom Ihejieto, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja.
The guild of medical directors, who also operate private hospitals in the FCT, said it was becoming embarrassing that land meant for hospitals in the FCT were yet to be allocated to its members.
Ihejieto, who is also a family physician, said this had forced members to be operating in rented properties and areas not suitable for hospitals, adding that this had brought undue charges on patients
According to him, the FCT administration should allocate the land meant for hospitals for those desirous of establishing hospitals.
He said this would help in reducing the cost that was being charged by members on the patients.
He said: “We have made moves to see how we could fix an appointment to meet with the Minister of the FCT, but our effort has not yielded any fruit.”
He said members had had to suffer harassment and intimidation from security agencies led by AMAC because they did not have a befitting place to operate.
Ihejieto said: “AMAC comes to the hospital with policemen, civil defence even when you have patients in the ward, they embarrass the patients and nothing stops the patient from getting cardiac arrest.
“Because, seeing a lot of solders, policemen and security men coming to harass us is embarrassing and sometimes it is really bad.”
He said that an organised place designed for hospital would help reduced such harassment and intimidation by security agents.
He called on the FCT minister to act fast and help allocate the land meant for hospital, adding that this will help in no small measure.
