Foremost African financial institution, Guaranty Trust Bank plc is poised to launch Days of Dorcas Online Photography Competition and the contest is part of the bank’s Art635 Gallery initiative aimed at promoting Arts and supporting African artists.
According to a statement issued by the bank on Saturday to the press, it stated that the online competition will serve as a platform to give aspiring female photographers between the ages of 18 – 39 years the platform to “enhance their career in visual arts and photography”.
It further stated that persons who intend to participate should send in their entries on the theme: “The elegance of the African people” via the website; www.art635.gallery/daysofdorcas and entries close on 17th of May 2018.
The statement revealed that the entries will be assessed by a panel of judges and the top selected 25 finalists will receive a 6-day workshop (between 28th May, 2018 – 2nd June, 2018), facilitated by experts in the arts and photography industry and the winner and the 1st runner up at the workshop will be rewarded with photography equipment.
The experts that will train the top 25 at the workshop are: Bénédicte Kurzen, renowned documentary and journalism photographer; TY Bello, celebrity photographer and philanthropist; Jumoke Sanwo, Video Art and Virtual Reality artist; Yetunde Ayeni-Babaeko, Founder of Camara-Studios and Uche Okpa-Iroha, Founding member of Blackbox photography and the Nlele Institute.
The Director of Guaranty Trust Bank plc, Segun Agbaje, while commenting on the competition, said: “At GTBank, we support hard work and creativity by encouraging young people to embrace every opportunity for self-expression. By organizing the Days of Dorcas Online Photography Competition, we are helping promising artists and photographers to boost their skills as well as explore various ways to make a living off their works”.
