A group loyal to an ex-governorship aspirant in Kaduna State, Muhammad Sani-Bello, has denied shifting their loyalty to the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Isa Ashiru.
The group, Mainan Zazzau Preparatory Team, on Friday at a press conference in Kaduna dismissed the claim as false and unfounded.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Sani-Bello, who holds the traditional title of Mainan Zazzau, had dumped the PDP on Monday, due to what he called “unending mistrust” between him and the state’s PDP leadership and its governorship candidate.
Sani-Bello had stepped down for Ashiru on the eve of the state PDP primaries.
Restating their loyalty to Sani-Bello, Chairman of the team, Sulaiman Lawal-Kaura, said they remained committed to his ideals and remain with him in his future political career.
According to him, a statement purportedly issued by the group on behalf of Sani-Bello supporting Ashiru was done without his permission.
He said: “What they did yesterday was entirely their own arrangement and is not from Mainan Zazzau preparation team; we want to mention categorically that we are not a party to that and whatever discussion or decision they took is entirely their own.”
He added anyone wishing to support Ashiru was free to do so, but warned that such should not use the umbrella of the group.
