A group, the Forum for Good Governance and Probity, has commended Nigerians on the successful of conduct of last weekend’s presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria.
The group, in a communique after its meeting to discuss the elections, said Nigerians showed great enthusiasm that ensured the elections were glaringly free and fair.
In the communique of the meeting, signed by the Chairman, Jacob Ogunseye, and Publicity Secretary, Adeola Jegede, the FGGP equally lauded the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega; the President and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan; the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari; and his party, the All Progressives Congress.
The communique reads: “It is indisputable fact that the 2015 general election in our dear country, Nigeria, was packed with tension and apprehension about what outcome would be.
“Firstly the FGGP congratulates all Nigerians for exercising their civil rights in a peaceful and orderly manner. Nigerians voices had been heard loud and clear.
“We congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for this successful and historical electoral transition and for keeping to his word that ‘No Single Blood Worth His Ambition’. To the man at the helms of affair at the electoral empire, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega and his entire team members, history will not forget your resilience.
“We also congratulate the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, and his party, All Progressives Congress, for their electoral victory at the presidential election. In every electoral contest, a winner must emerge. The Forum therefore implore all the political parties as well as their candidates and supporters who may not be satisfied with the outcome of the elections to seek redress through legal process rather than resorting into violence self-help.
“Now that the Nigerians have delivered the leadership mandate to General Buhari and his party, APC, we hereby remind the President-Elect that Nigerians expectations from him are enormous. The President-Elect must as a matter of urgency reach out to all Nigerians regardless of political or religion affiliations and ethnicity in order to unite the already polarized country.
“Reminding the President-Elect, General Buhari that another four years is around the corner, Nigerians expect him to tackle corruption, insecurity, unemployment, infrastructural decadence and revamping the dwindled economy. The President-Elect economic policies should not only promote the growth but the development and ensure accountability and probity in all the government ministries agencies.”
