Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has ordered an investigation into reports of salary underpayment and non-payment affecting civil servants, calling it an unacceptable violation of workers’ rights and a betrayal of public trust.
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, at the inauguration of a seven-member committee, set a seven-day deadline to uncover the root causes—whether technical errors or deliberate fraud.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, quoted Yusuf as expressing outrage that some workers had gone months without their rightful earnings, vowing to expose and punish those responsible.
“This administration will not tolerate any injustice against our workers. Anyone found complicit in this reprehensible act will face the full wrath of the law,” he declared.
The seven-member committee is tasked with auditing the state’s payroll from October 2024 to February 2025, identifying affected workers, assessing the financial impact, and recommending corrective and punitive measures.
Chaired by Hon. Abdulkadir Abdussalam, Commissioner for Rural & Community Development and former State Accountant General, the committee includes financial experts and senior officials:

Governor Yusuf assured civil servants of his commitment to justice, transparency, and prompt salary payments, warning that those guilty of exploiting workers will face severe consequences.
“The era of shortchanging our workers is over. This is a government of accountability, and no one will be spared if found guilty,” he asserted.
