Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State on Friday inaugurated a committee each for the market men and market women associations in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
Ahmed, while inaugurating the committees at the council’s secretariat in Omu-Aran, said that they were inaugurated to promote cordial relationship among members of the two associations.
The governor, represented by the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Comrade Bisi Fakayode, said that the inauguration was also to ensure even distribution of the dividends of democracy in the council area.
The governor urged members of the committees to discharge their duties without fair or favour.
He said the government had outlined various incentives in a bid to better the lots of artisans in the state, hence the need to put the committees in place to achieve success.
The governor said that N100 million had been released as revolving loan to the state artisans to boost their financial capabilities.
Ahmed said: “These committees became necessary to further embark on provision of palliatives and incentive to better the lots of artisan union members in the state as promised by the administration.
“We want the already existing cordial relationship between members of the union to continue.
“This will assist government in its quest to ensue even distribution of the dividend of democracy across the communities.”
Alhaji Luqman Owolewa, the Chairman of the Council, pledged the support and assistance of the council to improve trade and other commercial activities within the area.
“We will not rest on our oars in giving support where necessary to improve trading and other commercial activities in boosting the economic development of the council area,” Owolewa said.
The two committees cut across the 11 wards of the council.
Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed, the Babaloja in the council area, was named the chairman of the men’s committee, while Mogbonjubola Awoniyi, the Iyaloja of Irepodun Local Government Area, is heading the women’s committee.
Ahmed, on behalf of the committee members, pledged the committees’ readiness to discharge their duties diligently and efficiently in realising the desired aims and objectives.
