Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Saturday voted in his Amaube ward II in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
Ugwuanyi, who voted at 11.33am, told newsmen and his supporters: “I have voted and Enugu State is in the hands of God.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that polling officials and materials arrived at the council area at 10:30am and accreditation and voting started at about 10:40am.
NAN reports that the turnout in the governor’s ward was impressive, while accreditation of voters and voting were peaceful.
NAN, however, reports that voting also commenced in other parts of Nsukka Local Government Area, but the turnout of electorate was poor.
NAN reports that the late arrival of officials and materials contributed to the poor turnout of voters.
Also, accreditation and voting began at polling units at Okpara square, in the heart of Enugu at about 11:58am because the polling officials and materials arrived at the venue at 11.53am.
But at Agwu, accreditation and voting had not started.
A voter, Stella Agbo, said she came to the polling unit as early as 8:30am.
NAN reports that 31 political parties are contesting the chairmanship and councillorship polls.
