The Benue State Government has released N10 million to the NKST School of Nursing and Midwifery, Mkar to facilitate the accreditation of the institutions’ courses.
Governor Samuel Ortom announced this on Wednesday in Makurdi when he received an accreditation team from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, led by Okeoma Chiemeka.
The governor also presented four operational vehicles to the school as part of efforts to solve the institution’s logistics problems.
Ortom expressed optimism that the schools would secure accreditation as a result of concerted efforts by stakeholders.
According to the governor, it is regrettable that the schools lost accreditation for several years as a result of neglect by previous administrations.
He said plans were underway to affiliate the schools to the College of Health Sciences, Benue State University.
Chiemeka pledged that the council would do its work in accordance with guidelines.
Dr Cecilia Ojabo, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, expressed gratitude to the governor for ensuring resumption of academic activities in the two schools.
