Gov. Okorocha building bridges without design – COREN

Ali, who made this known when he appeared before the leadership of the Senate, said there is disaster waiting to happen with building of bridges across the state without design

The President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Kashim Abdul Ali, on Tuesday raised an alarm that the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, is building bridges across the state without designs.
Ali, who made this known when he appeared before the leadership of the Senate, said there is disaster waiting to happen with building of bridges across the state without design.
In his words: “Tragedy is about to happen in Imo State.
“Bridges are being built without design.
“It is a disaster waiting to happen.
“We cannot stop the construction because the Act establishing the COREN does not permit us to stop the construction.”
Ali, however appealed to the Senate leadership to support the amendment of the COREN Act to enable the association stop any construction without design.
He called the Senate to support the amendment of the COREN Act so that the body will be able to stop any project without design.
He said: “We are seeking Senate support to facilitate the amendment of the Act so that the body will be able to stop such issue.”
Responding on behalf of Senate leadership, the immediate past Senate President, David Mark, said it is unfortunate that COREN has no power to stop construction without design.
According to Mark: “Somebody is building bridges without a design.
“This is very unfortunate.
“I wish COREN has the authority to stop it.”
