Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has received the award of excellence as the best performing Governor in Agriculture and Roads infrastructure and a longest serving advocate of President Muhammadu Buhari’s change agenda.
The award was presented to Governor Al-Makura by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, at the end of Presidential High Table Dialogue organised by the Nigeria Television Authority at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Al-Makura was born on November 15, 1953 in Lafia.
A Successful Businessman and Entrepreneur, Al- Makura later formed his private company TA’AL Nigeria Limited with specific interest in real estate and property development.
He was elected Governor of Nasarawa State in 2011 under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change and later got re-elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2015.
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom also got an award as the best performing Governor in the area Educational empowerment, good road network and payment of workers’ salary.
His Kano State counterpart, Governor Umar Ganduje, received award of excellence as the best performing Governor in the area of war against drug abuse, good governance and the review of the Kano State Master plan.
Also, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi state, Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa and Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi were all awarded as the best performing Governors in Agriculture and rural infrastructure in their respective states.
However, Governor Simons Lalong of Plateau also received award of the best performing Governor of the year 2017, especially in the area of peace and security.
He was reported to have established an agency in charge of peace and reconciliation to consolidate on the peace building effort of the government.
In his goodwill message, Governor Al-Makura, thanked the entire management and staff of NTA for appreciating the developmental efforts carried out by the governors in their various states.
He said the award will serve as a morale booster not only to them as serving Governors but also to their successors to do more for their states.
