Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has debunked the report making the rounds that he intends to sack some workers if elected into office for a second term.
Gov. AbdulRazaq spoke on the report at an interactive session with civil servants in the state in Ilorin on Thursday.
The session was part of activities to mark the State Civil Service Week 2022 at the State Government Banquet Hall in Ilorin on Thursday.
AbdulRazaq said that the welfare of civil servants in the state remained most paramount to his administration and implored the workers to assiduously work to implement the policy and programmes of the state government.
He said: “Nobody is going to be sacked.
“It is a political gimmick by the opposition.
“We need your services.
“We believe in you.
“Do your work diligently.”
AbdulRazaq stressed the need to make life better for every civil servant in the state.
He said that the paternity leave recently approved by the Federal Government would be looked into with a view to implementing it for male civil servants in the state.
The governor further said that his government would prioritise the payment of salary and gratuity because civil servants were the engine of government, stressing: “Without the Civil Service, the government would collapse.”
The Head of Service, Susan Oluwole, who commended the state governor for his laudable achievements, assured him that the civil servants would continue to strive to do their best.
The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress in Kwara State, Comrade Issa Ore, commended AbdulRazaq for paying the salaries of workers as and when due.
Some of the civil servants who spoke commended the Governor for the prompt payment of salaries, implementation of minimum wage and training of civil servants.
Other achievements of the administrations outlined included renovation of the radio and television stations, procurement of vehicles and gender sensitivity implementation among others.
Also, Mary Mustapha, a Deputy Director in the Ministry of the Environment, requested upward review of the fund released for monthly payment of gratuity.
