Rilwan ‘Babyface’ Babatunde on Tuesday promised his numerous fans that he would beat his opponent silly at the international bout of the Gotv Boxing Night 14 coming up in Lagos.
Babyface told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that he would use the opportunity to launch himself further in African boxing challenge.
With an unbeaten record so far, Babyface is scheduled to fight Djossou ‘Agoy’ Basile of the Republic of Benin for the West African Boxing Union welterweight title in Lagos on April 14.
He is a prodigy of the GOtv NextGen held in 2017, who has kept a great profile beating opposing contenders and claimed the N2 million Mojisola Ogunsanya Cash Award at the 11th edition in 2017.
Babyface also defeated Waliu ‘Oganla’ Arogundade in the fourth round of their eight-round national light welterweight challenge bout to launch himself in the history of Nigeria’s hard punchers.
According to him, it is a great opportunity for me to once again show everybody how well I can perform when I step into the ring against any opposition.
He said: “Incidentally, going for the West African Boxing Union challenge is a big stepping stone to me and I can categorically tell all my fans that I will not disappoint.
“I know it is a tough step, but I am confident of doing justice to the fight and assure all my fans that I will beat my opponent silly.’’
At the same event, a national lightweight title fight between Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu, winner of the N2.5 million best boxer award at GOtv Boxing Night 13 will fight Kazeem “Ijoba” Badmus.
Oladosu, a stylish boxer who loves to taunt his opponents before putting them out of contention, sees his next fight as “a simply walkover’’.
He told NAN that his opponent had dared him, threatening that he would tear him apart when they clash in the ring.
He said: “Sincerely, my target is to go international and beat some other African title holders.
“But since a local boxer like Badmus has fumbled to me, I should definitely teach him a lesson of his life.’’
Also, ABU lightweight champion, Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph, would be in action against the tough policeman, Prince “Lion” Nwoye in a local derby contest.
In the cruiserweight category, Abiodun “Finito” Afini will take on Razak “Hyena” Ramon as Chukwuebuka “Wise King” Ezewudo gets set to battle Sulaimon “Jagaban” Olapade in a super middleweight category.
Best boxer at the event will go home with a cash prize of N1 million as fans get set for a spectacle night at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.
