Nigeria’s Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph, who is billed to fight Egyptian Abdulrahim Ahmed for the vacant African Boxing Union lightweight title, has vowed to demolish his opponent when they clash at GOtv Boxing Night 13 on December 26 at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event will feature musical performances by Small Doctor, Falz The Bahd Guy, Reekado Banks and Simi.
Using a biblical allusion, Joe Boy said Joseph triumphed in Egypt despite the odds against him.
While noting that the fight is not in Egypt, Joe Boy said the triumph of the biblical Joseph is a pointer to the fact that he will have victory over the Egyptian.
He said: “I know he is his country’s champion and also holds the Mediterranean title, but I will beat him to pulp.
“In the Bible, Joseph became big in Egypt.
“In Lagos, I will become big by winning the ABU title.
“I will do Nigeria proud.
“The Egyptian you will see that day, you will see no more after.”
On the same night, Nigeria’s Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi will aim for the ABU light welterweight title when he takes on Michael Odhiambo of Kenya.
Another international title bout will see Nigeria’s Abolaji “Afonja Warrior” Rasheed defend his West African Boxing Union title against Arye Ayitteh of Ghana.
Also lined up are national lightweight and light welterweight title fights.
The latter will see Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde take on Chijioke “Painless” Ngige, while the former will feature Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu against Kehinde “Ijoba’ Badmus.
There will also be challenge bouts between Rilwan “Scorpion” Oyekola and Jimoh “Hogan Jimoh Jr” in the lightweight division as well as between Matthew “Wizeman” Obinna and Cosmos “Awosika” David in the super middleweight class.
Tickets are available online at ariiyatickets.com, SLOT and Ebeano Supermarket outlets as well as the National Stadium.
Buses will be made available to transport ticket-holding fans from the National Stadium to the venue of the event and back to the stadium.
