Fast-rising light welterweight boxer, Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde, on Sunday emerged the best boxer at GOtv Boxing Night 11, which held at the Indoor Sports Hall of Obafemi Awolowo (formerly Liberty) Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The young boxer won the N2 million cash prize and the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy attached to the award.
The cash prize is the biggest ever won by a boxer fighting locally.
Previous winners of the award went home with N1 million.
The prize was boosted for GOtv Boxing Night 11 by Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the Chairman of GOtv Boxing, in honour of his late wife, Mojisola Ogunsanya, who died on March 22, 2014.
Baby Face, 20, knocked out Waliu “Oganla” Arogundade in the fourth of their eight-round national light welterweight challenge bout.
The main bout of the night was the 12-round West African Boxing Union lightweight title bout between Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph of Nigeria and Ghana’s Ayitey Mettle.
Joseph won via a first round technical knockout.
Big name star and national light welterweight champion, Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi, saw off the spirited attempt of young Vincent Essien in round three.
