Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lamented the state of affairs of Nigeria despite its abundant natural and human resources.
Obasanjo, who spoke with newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Sunday, however, said he believes good leaders, who will be able to harness the country’s resources, will soon emerge.
He said that Nigeria’s resources have been grossly mismanaged and that this was saddening considering the fact that not so many countries are as blessed as Nigeria.
Obasanjo told newsmen: “God has been extra generous to Nigeria.
“Many nations of the world are not as richly endowed as the country.
“I believe good people who will be able to manage it will come, maybe later.
“But the earlier we are there, the better and I am sure we will be there.
“We will be there because God has been kind to us.
“We only need to be kind to ourselves.
“God will help us.
“God has been kind to us.
“We need to be kind to ourselves.”
On the activities of dreaded sect, Boko Haram, Obasanjo said the reign of the group will be over soon.
He said the time for Nigeria to enjoy peace and tranquility is almost here.
“On Boko Haram, I know we will get there very soon,” Obasanjo said.
