The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Gombe State said on Sunday that it had found a 12-year-old boy, Abbas Babangida, who was kidnapped from Kano two weeks ago.
Remi Idowu, Head of Intelligence and Investigation Department of the corps, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gombe that the boy was found in Garin Dogo village in Funakaye Local Government Area of the state.
Idowu said the boy, a primary five pupil of Gwaram Dutse Primary School in Kano, approached an Islamic teacher, Malam Liman Nasir, seeking assistance to convey him to Gombe.
Idowu said upon enquiry, the teacher discovered that the boy was kidnapped from Kano and after being taken to several places, was later abandoned at Garin Dogo.
The NSCDC officer said the boy confirmed that he was kidnapped by some men and later abandoned at Garin Dogo village.
He said all the information the boy gave about his parents and residential address had been sent to NSCDC Kano Command, to locate his parents.
Idowu said the boy would continue to be in the command’s custody until his parents were located.
According to him, the boy is physically well and mentally sound.
Narrating his ordeal, the victim told NAN that two weeks ago about 9pm, he was sent to buy soap and spices.
He said as he was crossing the road to buy the items, three men kidnapped him, forced him into a car and took him to a house.
The boy said later in the night, the men took him out of the house into another car driven by a woman.
He said when they arrived at a village, he was abandoned on the road at dawn.
According to him, he met two persons at different points and requested them to assist him but they refused.
He said his parents, Malam Mohammed Babangida and Hauwau Ishaku, were residents of Yar Kura area of Kano metropolis.
However, the victim said he was living with his grandfather around Alhaji Ishaka Rabiu mosque in Kano.
The Islamic teacher also told NAN that he found the boy in a culvert in Garin Dogo while returning to his house in Bojulde, Kwami Local Government Area.
“The boy told me that he was kidnapped and that his neck was paining him due to molestation by his captors,” he said.
The teacher said he contacted the traditional rulers, opinion leaders and officials of the NSCDC in the area and reported the matter to them.
Nasir said after getting details about the boy’s parents, he called some people in Kano to help locate the parents but there was no response.
Nasir said he and the boy were later brought to the NSCDC headquarters in Gombe for interrogation.
