Forty-two Nigerians players have made the court to the third round at the ongoing median West African Golf Tour on Saturday in Abuja.
The competition, which began on February 24 and will end on February 28, is holding at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babaginda Country Golf Club in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that of the 120 professionals that entered for the tour from day one, only 42 home-based players were on the score of +20.
The third round matches started with 50 professionals’ players that made the court in the Day 3 of the tournament.
Andrew Odoh, the number one player on the list, told NAN that WAGT was a good initiative for home-based players who do not have exposure to international tournaments.
Odoh said: “I will say a big thank you to the organisers and say it is a good initiative for Nigerian golf because we hardly go out for international tournament of this level.
“This way, our players will be exposed to not just local tournaments but also play at an international level and gain exposure in the sport.”
Mike Ubi, who played a +7 and the number three of the tournament, described the tour as interesting, while applauding the organisers.
Kingsley Oparaku, the number four of the tour, who played + 10, expressed satisfaction with the standard.
Oparaku said: “I am very happy that we are playing a tour in Nigeria and that it started on IBB Golf Club.
“The tour is good enough to encourage us to play even better.
“With this inaugural edition, a lot of our guys would be encouraged to do better.”
NAN reports that the tour began with 120 professionals and 84 armature players from five countries – host Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal and Cameroon.
