Former CAF Champions’League winners, Enyimba International, have regained the leadership of the Glo Nigeria Premier League after piping Akwa United by a lone goal at the Aba Stadium on Wednesday.
The Peoples Elephant, though tied on 55 points with Bayelsa United, are back on top owing to their superior goals difference, all thanks to their good defensive record that has seen them not concede any goal at home this season.
Enyimba’s veteran striker broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a header as he connected a free kick inside the 18-yard.
Though the six-time League champions tried to add to the tally, they were unsuccessful and were lucky to keep their flawless run intact as Akwa United’s top marksman, Mfon Udoh, was close to breaking the duck for the visitors in the closing stages.
Bright Esieme, who was massive at the backline for the hosts, was rightly adjudged the man-of-the-match as Enyimba continue their chase for a double this season.
Elsewhere, Nasarawa United compounded the woes of Shooting Stars as they walloped the Oluyole Warriors by three goals to nil in Lafia.
Sharks of Port Harcourt were also three goals better of El-Kanemi.
Warri Wolves beat Wikki 3-1, Kaduna United pipped Kano Pillars by one-nil.
Nembe City also beats Bayelsa 1-0, Heartland drew goalless with Sunshine Stars in Owerri, Kwara United and Lobi end ed in a stalemate while Rangers defeated ABS by two-nil.
