Aniekan Umanah, the Commissioner for Information and Communication in Akwa Ibom State, on Friday said Ghanaian President, John Mahama, would accompany President Goodluck Jonathan to inaugurate Akwa Ibom International Stadium onNovember 7.
Umanah said this at a media chat with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The commissioner, who is also the Chairman of the Publicity Committee on the stadium inauguration, said the Olympic size stadium was 100 per cent ready for inauguration.
He said: “The stadium is ready for inauguration by President Goodluck Jonathan onNovember 7.
“Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State will be playing host to President Jonathan and Ghanaian President, John Mahama, during the inauguration.”
Umanah said security arrangements had been put in place to forestall any lapses and ensure asuccessful inauguration.
On the maintenance of the stadium, the commissioner said there was a maintenance agreement with the construction company, Julius Berger Construction, for 10 years to ensure the facilities were kept in good shape.
He said: “I can assure you that this will not be regrettable stories.
“The facilities and the state of maintenance will be sustained.”
According to Umanah, the Nigerian Football Federation and the Confederation of African Football approved the stadium as an Olympic standard.
On the cost of the project, the commissioner said: “It is a costly project.
“I cannot say off hand so that I will not make mistakes.”
The 30,000 capacity Olympic size stadium has bullet proof VIP box.
