Out of the 4,443 graduands of the 2017/2018 academic session, the Federal University of Technology, Minna has on Friday disclosed that it will graduate 72 First class students.
Making this known at a press briefing on the occasion of the 28th convocation ceremony of the school, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, said in the last set out of the 3,741 graduands, 62 bagged first class degree.
Bala said: “A total of 3,671 graduands will be conferred with first degrees.
“For higher degrees and Diplomas, 506 will be awarded Masters degrees, 58 for degree of Doctor of Philosophy and 208 for Postgraduate diploma giving a total of 772.
“For this session, of the first degree category, which is classified, 72 are First class, 941 in Second class upper division, 1,905 in second class lower division, 707 in Third class lower division while 46 are with Pass degrees.
“The figures revealed that the total number of awardees for undergraduate degrees is up by about 20 percent compared to last year.
“The number of First class candidates have increased, in addition, the number of PhD and Masters degree as well as Postgraduates Diplomas have recorded significant increase.”
Prof. Bala further disclosed that out of the over 23,000 students of the institution, only 4,402 have bed spaces in the hostels making it over 70 percent students living off campus.
He said the FUT, Minna has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Urban Shelter Lumited for the provision of 5,344 bed spaces in the next four years under the build, operate and transfer model.’
