Rio Ferdinand has not even got a boxing licence yet but he has already attracted plenty of attention with his sporting switch – including an offer from Tyson Fury.
Former heavyweight champion Fury has not fought since 2015, when he beat Wladimir Klitschko to take the WBA, IBF and WBA world heavyweight titles.
But the Brit has since relinquished the belts, citing problems with depression and cocaine use.
He remains unbeaten and after Ferdinand announced his attention to become a professional boxer on Tuesday, Fury decided he would lend a helping hand.
“Looking forward to seeing this,” Fury wrote, including a picture of Ferdinand wearing boxing gloves.
“From football star to boxing star, if you need any tips on being a bad a** call me.
“@rioferdy5 good luck.”
Ferdinand’s move, which comes just weeks before he turns 39, has been given a mixed reception with many calling into question the former Manchester United defender’s judgement.
