TV personality and owner of defunct popular programme, New Dawn on NTA, Funmi Iyanda, a few hours ago released a comment on the ban of local gin in Nigeria following recent deaths of some Nigerians in Rivers and Ondo States.
Iyanda advised NAFDAC to find a better way of regulating the production rather than the out right ban of the local gin, popularly called ogogoro.
Recently, the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, Dr. Paul Orhii, announced the ban on the sale of ogogoro across the country
Orihii made the announcement on June 8, 2015.
Orhii added that the essence of the regulation is to protect the public health.
Iyanda, on her Twitter handle, said: “But Ogogoro is one of the very few things we produce locally.
“Surely there must be a way to organise and regulate it.”
