The Ogun Command of Federal Road Safety Corps on Saturday said that its personnel rescued 305 victims in 94 road crashes across the state during the 2018 Yuletide.
Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota, Ogun.
The sector commander, however, said that the rate of fatalities rose from 23 per cent in 2017 to 30 per cent in 2018.
Oladele attributed the increase in the figure of people rescued to the early Special patrol initiated by the FRSC during the period.
According to him, instead of the traditional 27-day special patrol during the Yuletide, 48 days special patrol was introduced in 2018.
He said: “Most of the crashes could be traced to speeding, wrongful overtaking and tyre burst, to mention a few.”
Oladele, however, reiterated the FRSC’s commitments to ensure that road accidents were reduced to the barest level in 2019.
He advised motorists to desist from speeding and wrongful overtaking to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
