The Fiscal Responsibility Commission is seeking for increased and sustained funding for Federal Government establishments in Ebonyi State to execute its projects.
The Head Finance and Accounts of FRC, Samson Eletuo, made the call in Abakaliki during a tour of some Federal Goverment’s establishments in the state to ascertain their compliance with the fiscal responsibility laws.
Eletuo, who is the leader of the team to Ebonyi State, noted that the establishments visited complied impressively with fiscal responsibility laws and requirements.
He said: “We are impressed with the compliance rate and execution of projects in the establishments, especially the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki and the university itself.”
He noted that these institutions showed proper compliance to the procurement act and having done so, they deserve encouragement from the Federal Government.
Eletuo said: “This encouragement should be in the release of more funds to them to complete and consolidate on the projects, to serve the intended purposes.
“The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, for instance, deserves more funds to complete its state headquarters in Abakaliki, which remains the landscaping of its surrounding.
“This has hindered it from relocating from its temporary abode as the type of soil on which the structure was constructed necessitates the landscaping.”
Eletuo noted that the team verified the procurement records of the establishments and was satisfied with what they presented and achieved.
He said: “It is within the mandate of FRC to verify projects in the establishments to confirm their existence and true compliance with procurement laws.
“This will enable us make appropriate recommendations to the National Assembly and the Ministries, Departments and Agencies responsible for the supervision of the projects we are monitoring.”
The Ebonyi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Steve Amoga, commended the FRC team for the visit, describing it as the best way to ensure completion of projects in Federal Government establishments.
Amoga said: “I urge the team to recommend that funds be released for the landscaping of our headquarters due to its water-logged nature.
“The funds would also be used for fittings in the 53-room structure and once this is achieved, we would relocate immediately.”
