Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Calabar on Monday remanded the former bursar of the University of Calabar, Peter Agi, in prison custody, pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.
Agi, 43, is standing trial on an eight-count charge bordering on fraud while serving as bursar of the university.
After hearing briefs from both the plaintiff and the defendant’s counsel, the trail judge ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
He had granted the accused bail in the sum of N20m and a surety who must be a civil servant of not less than Grade Level 14 and above.
Justice Ekwo also ordered that the surety must have a landed property worth N20 million within the jurisdiction of the court as well as evidence of three years’ tax payment.
The judge also ordered seizure of the accused’s travel documents while a bench warrant was issued for the arrest of his co-accused, Isioma Sarah Agi, 33.
The judge thereby adjourned the case until 8th, 9th and 10th October 2018.
