Four operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team have been shot dead in the line of Duty.
According to available information, the operatives were killed while carrying out follow up investigations into the kidnapping of Sheikh Ahmad Adam Algarkawy in Rigasa area of Kaduna State on August 2, 2018.
Algarkawy was released after paying ransom to his kidnappers.
In a follow up to the case on August 11, 2018, the IRT operatives arrested two of the kidnappers in a remote settlement inside Rigasa Forest, Kaduna State.
However, as the team was coming out of the bush with the arrested kidnappers, other members of the gang in hiding ambushed them, opening fire, leading to the death of four of the operatives.
Those killed were Inspector Benard Odibo, Inspector Mamman Abubakar, Inspector Haruna Ibrahim and Sergeant Emmanuel Istifanus.
The bodies of the deceased operatives had since been deposited at Saint Gerald Hospital Mortuary, Kaduna State for autopsy.
The IRT, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, is said to be making “very serious efforts to get the killers to justice”.
