A charity, Voom Foundation, in association with Sah Nigeria, is running a charity medical mission to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, carrying out open heart surgeries on less fortunate Nigerians who could not afford to travel abroad.
This, a statement on Monday said, has now matured into regular visits every two months to the UNTH by the team.
More importantly, the statement said, the visiting team is now training and transferring skills to the local team involved in the surgeries.
The belief of the visiting team is that the local team would be able to stand on its own in not a distant future.
The statement added: “Our next mission is scheduled for March 23rd-April 6th 2014.
“A very important part of this visit will be free screening of patients – adult and children – for surgically correctable heart defect.”
The statement urged Nigerians to use the opportunity to avail their friends and family access to the specialists visiting Nigeria.
