The Flying Eagles led by skipper Abduljaleel Ajagun promised on Sunday to successfully defend the African Youth Championship they won two years ago in South Africa.
The Nigeria U20 side are to begin their title defence on March 17 against Mali in Oran.
Debutants Gabon and DR Congo are the other teams in their first round group of the Flying Eagles.
“We are ready for the battle,” assured skipper Ajagun.
“We know what is at stake and we promise to do the country proud in Algeria.”
The Nigeria Football Federation have doubled the team’s winning bonus to $2,000 in the first round in an effort to further galvanise the team.
“This means we will redouble our efforts in the game,” said defender Chizoba Amaefule.
“This means we will die on the pitch to ensure we win,” added Aliyu Goyi.
Striker Olanrewaju Kayode said they appreciate the NFF incentive but they are already fired up to defend the country’s colours in Algeria.
“We appreciate the NFF for what they have done, but I can assure you that the main driving force for us is that we are committed to prove ourselves and so doing bring more honour to Nigeria after what the Super Eagles achieved in South Africa,” he said.
“We are coming back with our trophy,” added a very confident striker Alhaji Gero.
The Flying Eagles will play their final warm-up game on Monday afternoon against Club Africain U20 team.
They fly out to Algiers on Wednesday afternoon.
In a related development, a Nigerian banker based in Tunis, Ibrahim Pam, has hosted officials of the Flying Eagles at his home.
Pam is a keen football fans and is a top executive at the African Development Bank.
He is also the younger brother of Ishaya Pam, who is the Chief Medical Director of the Jos University Teaching Hospital, which has a professional football club, JUTH FC.
He has promised to be in Algeria to cheer the team in the final of the tournament.
He was supported by his ADB colleague and President of Nigerian staff members at ADB, Robert Obikudu.
Officials were treated to various Nigerian delicacies at Pam’s lovely Tunis home.
This ranged from pounded yam to pepper soup.
“We are encouraged by this kind gesture by Pam and this will further boost our confidence going to the African Youth Championship in Algeria,” saluted team co-ordinator, Chika Nwankwo, during the weekend rendezvous.
