A Special Offences Court in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State on Monday sentenced five motorcyclists to three months imprisonment for plying prohibited routes.
The Magistrate, J. E. Adeyemi, said that the accused be imprisoned for three months or pay a fine of N30,000 each in lieu of the offence committed.
The accused persons had pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of plying prohibited routes.
The prosecutor, Babatunde Sunmonu, had prayed the court to adopt the fact of the plea of guilty as stated by the accused.
Sunmonu said that the accused: James Obi, 35; Osondu Obi, 35; Olajide Dipo, 27; Sunday Olojede, 27; and Iyiola Sulaimon, 32, were arrested on January 29 at about 1pm on Ikotun Road, Lagos.
According to him, the offence committed contravenes Section 3 subsection 5 of the Road Traffic Law 2012, which stipulates a fine of N20,000 and forfeiture of the motorcycle or three months imprisonment.
