The Head Coach of First Bank Female Basketball Club, Peter Ahmedu, on Thursday said his club would defend the 2018 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League title.
Ahmedu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the club had recruited 13 new players to reinforce the team ahead of the competition.
He said: “We have been training morning and evening since the beginning of this year. I have only five old players left, others have got admission to university.
“I have 13 new players to strengthen my team now to make up the 18 players in my team.
“We are unbeatable, no animal can beat the elephant in the jungle and that is the reason why we are called ‘Elephants Girls; so we are ready to crush any team that comes our way.
“We won last year’s season and we are set to replicate our performance this season.’’
Ahmedu said this year’s league had been delayed because of the issues between the old and the new management board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
He said: “We have not received the date to start the league but we are hopeful that they will resolve their differences by next month and give us a positive date for the league.’’
