After several failed congresses in the state, the All Progressive Congress in Niger State has finally elected Alhaji Jibril Adamu as the party’s state Chairman.
Adamu polled 1,142 votes to defeat his seven other opponents in a re-scheduled congress.
It was reliably gathered that the re-scheduled Congress commenced on Saturday at about 10am and lasted till about 11am on Sunday.
It was held at the Trade Fair Complex, Minna, Niger State with thousands of the party’s delegates voting in the election.
The APC State Congress Committee Chairman, Malam Dalhatu Batagarawa, declared to the delegates that Adamu pulled the highest votes to clinch the chairmanship position, while Malam Tanko B. Ahmad clinch the post of the Vice chairman with 1,228 votes.
Other elected officers included Malam Mohammed A. Liman, Secretary; Dr. Abdulsalami Shafi, Treasurer; Malam Ismaila Madibbo, Organising Secretary; and Jonathan Vatsa was also elected the Publicity Secretary.
Also, three women got elected during the congress.
They were Hajiya Hawau Koroka as the Vice Chairman, Zone A; Malama Fati Mustapha as Woman Leader; and Malama Halima Usman as Assistant Woman Leader.
Batagarawa told The Eagle Online in an interview, after declaring the results, that he was happy about the outcome of the election, which he described as peaceful, orderly and democratic despite the initial problems.
He commended the delegates for their commitment to the ideals of the party by coming for the re-scheduled state congress and being orderly in their conduct throughout the 25 hours of the election without rancour or acrimony.
According to him: “The committee noticed lapses in the manner of the voting by some illiterate delegates and that the committee was able to remove those invalid votes.
“The number of invalid votes will not affect the outcome of the election.
“Therefore, I declare the winners in the election.”
Batagarawa further stated that those not satisfied with the outcome of the election could appeal to the party’s Appeal Committee within one week.
The committee, he said, will look at their complains and address them.
Adamu commended the delegates for their confidence in him and promised that he would put together the unity of all elements in the party in order to ensure the victory of the party in the forthcoming general elections.
