All is now set for the final phase of FCT Handball Challenge scheduled to take place at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Abuja from June 22 to 28, 2013.
The annual competition, which is being sponsored by Centre for Children and Youth Excellence in Sports, in collaboration with FCT Handball Association, will witness the participation of six male teams and three female teams.
The male teams are Safety Shooters, Civil Riders, Kada Stars, Edo Dynamos, Idah Pillars and Prison Key Boys while the female teams are Safety Babes (FCT), Civil Defence Babes (FCT) and Kada Queens (Kaduna State).
These teams made it to this final stage after finishing tops in their various groups in the preliminary round played in April.
According to the draw released over the weekend by the Local Organising Committee of the championship, Safety Shooters (FCT), Edo Dynamos (Edo State) and Ida Pillars (Kogi) are in Group A while Civil Riders (FCT), Prison Key Boys (FCT) and Kada Stars (Kaduna State) are in Group B.
All the three female teams were grouped together and will play a round-robin to determine the champions.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Bala K. Mohammed, said that handball in FCT has come of age, adding that the turnaround the game is enjoying presently in the nation’s capital has been a painstaking plan that has religiously been executed over the past five years.
Mohammed further called on the participating teams to adhere strictly to the rules of the game, maintaining that discipline has always been the hallmark of the game of handball.
He said: “We have put everything in place for this championship.
“I strongly believe that we will continue to wear our garment of pacesetters, which FCT has been known for.”
