Three-time African champions, Nigeria, have risen three places in the latest rankings released by world football-governing body, Fifa.
This is contrary to the earlier report by The Eagle Online that the country maintained the 66th position it attained last month.
The Super Eagles amassed 2.5 ranking points to garner a total of 542.5 points for the month of January.
Nigeria, now ranked 12th in Africa, are trailing Cote d’ Ivoire, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, Tunisia, Senegal, Congo, Guinea, Cameroon, Egypt, DR Congo, Uganda and Mali.
The Sunday Oliseh lads would be hoping to improve their ranking by posting a superlative display in their double header Nations Cup qualifier clash against the Pharaohs of Egypt next month.
Nigeria failed to pick a quarterfinal ticket at the ongoing African Nations Championship in Rwanda.
Meanwhile, Belgium, Argentina and Spain hold their increasingly familiar top three slots while Hungary (19, plus 1) and Turkey (20, plus 1) enter the top 20 thanks to Côte d’Ivoire’s exit (28, minus 9).
Hungary’s small increase comes with a massive celebration.
Hungary have reached their best ever position since the FIFA World Ranking was introduced in 1993.
This month, Africa loses two teams this month from the top 50, bringing the new total to six, while the representation of the other confederations in the top 50 has not changed for the February Ranking.
